    LYDIA
“At Songs For Kids you’re not being defined by your disability. For Lydia that’s important because she doesn’t want to hear about it anymore; she’s done with all that.”

“For Lydia, [music]’s not just a pastime – it gives her life and a reason to keep going every day. I do value that music mentor relationship – it’s really key for her. She really looks forward to working with Weston twice a week. She has memory problems so it always feels good when she asks “Are we going to see Weston tomorrow”?

I think Songs For Kids is so important to her and she’s looking forward to it so much that she’s able to keep it in her brain.”

    -Rachel, Lydia’s Mom
    JULIANNA
“I know she loves the attention, and Songs For Kids treats her on-age there which means a lot. She has dwarfism so even though she’s almost 12, she looks younger and a lot of people make assumptions.”

“The Songs For Kids Center is a space to be herself and express herself. She lights up when she knows we’re going. I don’t have a ‘morning child’ but she sets her alarm for 8:30 so she can be ready in time for her visit. We didn’t realize how important music was to her until all of a sudden there was a piano in front of her and she was so happy.”

    -Jennifer, Julianna’s Mom
    NOLAN
“The thing I appreciate, and I think Nolan appreciates too, is that they’re always looking for new things that Nolan can do, like ‘Oh, xylophone isn’t too far from drums,’ and then the next day they’re like ‘Yo! Nolan! We have a xylophone!’ They’re just like, ‘Let’s just keep ordering stuff people ask for and meet them where they are.’”

“[Songs For Kids] exposes him to so many other things he wouldn’t otherwise get access to—school resources are limited. He’s having more chances to ‘talk’ about the things he wants, and he realizes if he asks for things and advocates for himself, he gets them. His learning and growth is slow but it’s measurable and I can see it.”

    -Jeff, Nolan’s Dad
    ANDERSON
“They take the time to listen to Anderson and the path he wants to take. ...They were quick to assess where he is and keep pushing him. The very first time I was sitting there, Josh was like ‘Anderson, you’re gonna sing this’ and he did! They pushed him without it feeling like he’s being pushed; it’s more about the encouragement and the enthusiasm.”

“His confidence and musical abilities have grown: before, singing wasn’t something he would have said he felt comfortable doing, but he just now performed at his youth group’s open house. “

“It’s been a blessing, it truly has. The treatment hasn’t been easy for Anderson, and this has really given him something to look forward to.”

    -Sally, Anderson’s Mom
